Seeing Christ in the World .... Being Christ in the World

The Prayer Tent

We come together as a benefice once a month to pray

During an hour of guided prayer, the prayer leader leads us through each part of prayer and brings our prayers to a close

During an hour of guided prayer, the prayer leader leads us through each part of prayer and brings our prayers to a close

We begin with a short reading that facilitates our listening for God, resting our thoughts and spirit on him

Then anyone is welcome to pray aloud drawing on a word, phrase, or image that has come to mind in our listening to God

Each month the prayer leader identifies 3-4 specific areas for prayer relating to:

  • mission
  • ministry and our churches
  • particular needs of the community

and we are invited to pray openly or in our hearts being led by the Spirit

The prayer leader will draw our prayers to a close

Practicalities:

  1. A few words about prayer to help us begin.
    1. Prayer is about life, all of it, but we don’t need to talk about it all at once.
    2. Prayer is our conversation with God, not an examination, so it isn’t important to speak in perfect phrases.
    3. God hadn’t required us to take a theology degree to speak to him.
    4. God who sees our hearts desires our conversation – whether they be passionate cries, frustrated questioning, deep asking, or amiable discussion.
    5. In naming someone during open prayer, God also hears those sensitive details that are best not spoken out loud
  2. We begin by listening.  We listen to God before we speak, allowing our thoughts to remain with us, and God to join us in our stillness and silence.

Open Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ embolden us with the power given to us by the Holy Spirit so that we may bring to you our thoughts in prayer.

  • Help us to pray aloud where you have gifted us to share our prayer.
  • Grant also power to those prayers that remain in the silent depths of our hearts.
