Seeing Christ in the World .... Being Christ in the World

St. Michael's Food for Thought Service

St. Michael's

A Church with a Difference

With three churches in the Tenterden Benefice, St. Michael's has the opportunity to hold a service with a difference once a month. For many, the Church's liturgy, the language and format of the services, is all very well for those who are steeped in the traditions of Christianity in general and the Church of  England in particular, but they can seem dead and irrelevant to many people today.

So on the second Sunday of the month, the main 10am Sunday service at St. Michael's is called "Food for Thought".  From about 10 we serve bacon butties and hot drinks, and everyone has a chance to chat and meet together. At 10.30 we settle down for a service with a difference. There is a topic in which everyone can think and talk about an important issue - prayers, readings and hymns certainly, but also a chance to think about what Christ and His teaching have to tell us about the world we live in. Poverty, refugees, GM crops are some of the things we have talked about. The service lasts for half an hour and then we can carry on with the discussion over coffee and biscuits.
